One Step Forward: Affordable Housing in Gallatin County
Posted on October 30, 2024Gallatin County Takes a Step Towards Affordable Housing
Gallatin County is making strides to address the region's ongoing housing crisis. A new affordable housing development, planned for the county-owned land behind the Gallatin County Rest Home, is set to provide 178 much-needed units.
This project is a significant step forward, as the county has secured approval for nine-percent low-income tax credits to help fund the development. These credits will allow the county to finance a portion of the construction costs, making the project more feasible.
The development will include a mix of unit types to accommodate various income levels, with a particular focus on those earning 30% of the area's median income. This demographic has been disproportionately affected by the rising cost of housing in the Gallatin Valley.
While the project is still in the early stages, the county aims to begin construction as soon as possible, with a target start date of 2025. The development is expected to have a positive impact on the local community by providing affordable housing options for residents and contributing to a more stable housing market.
